Side by side

What changes from tier to tier

Fit, finish range and time are the three things that move. Construction quality is something we control at every tier by choosing the lines we carry and installing them properly.

Mix and match

The smartest projects often use two tiers

A custom island with a semi-custom perimeter. Custom cabinetry in the kitchen and stock in the garage and laundry. Semi-custom boxes with custom doors that match the original millwork in an older home. We design the whole house that way when it makes sense, and the consultation is where we work out where the money matters most.

Tier questions, answered straight

Every question we get

What is the difference between stock, semi-custom and custom cabinets?

Stock cabinets come in fixed sizes and a limited set of finishes and ship quickly; semi-custom cabinets are factory-built but can be modified in size and offer far more styles and finishes; custom cabinets are built to the exact dimensions of your room in any species, profile and finish. Blair Custom Interiors fits and installs all three.

Which cabinet tier is right for my budget?

It depends on the room and what you need it to do, so we look at the space first and then recommend the least expensive tier that will actually get the result you want. Stock is the most accessible, semi-custom sits in the middle and custom is the full investment. We give you a written quote for the tier we recommend and, if it helps, for the one above it.

Can I mix cabinet tiers in one project?

Yes, and it is often the smartest way to spend. A custom island with a semi-custom perimeter, custom cabinetry in the kitchen with stock in the garage and laundry, or semi-custom boxes with custom doors to match existing millwork are all combinations we build regularly.

Are stock cabinets good quality?

Quality varies a great deal between stock lines, which is why we only fit the ones we would put in our own homes, with plywood boxes and soft-close hardware where the line offers them. Installed level, plumb and scribed to the wall, a good stock cabinet looks far better than the same box fitted carelessly.

How long do custom cabinets take compared with stock?

Stock cabinets are typically in your home within one to three weeks; semi-custom typically takes four to eight weeks from order to delivery; custom cabinetry is built to order and typically takes eight to fourteen weeks. We give you a written schedule before anything is ordered.

Is the consultation free if I choose stock?

Yes. The in-home consultation, the measurements and the written quote are free whichever tier you choose, and there is no obligation. We would rather help you spend well on a stock-cabinet project than sell you a tier you do not need.
